2011 Pan American Games & New York Open Tournament Recap

Wow, its been a crazy month or so here at Maxercise! We had the 2011 IBJJF Pan American Games in Irvine, California at the end of March, then the Eddie Alverez Grappling Tournament right when we got back, and THEN this past weekend we competed at the IBJJF New York Open Tournament at the City College of New York. It has been an exhausting but awesome month for Maxercise’s Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Competition Team. Let’s start with Pan Ams…we ended up bringing 10 Competitors, here’s a video of Purple Belt Shannon Sofield who ended up taking home the gold! After Maxercise Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Comepetition Team got back in Philadelphia we only had a few days rest before we undertook the running of the Eddie Alverez Grappling Championship which took place within the MMA & Sports Expo in Oaks, PA.  We ran a great Grappling Tournament with great competition and really good fights. At the end of the day we tallied up the team points and Daddis Fight Camps took first, with BJJ United taking second and Maxercise taking third! Now we come to this past weekend, the IBJJF New York Open which took place in Manhattan. We brought 13 Competitors to the tournament and ended up taking home 3 Silver and 5 Bronzes! We had a lot of great matches with a lot of our first time competitors getting submissions and doing pretty awesome. Here’s Maxercise/Rip Tide BJJ’s very own Shawn Bodio getting his clock choke on.
